Reference/Instruction Librarian/ University of Wisconsin-Parkside/ Kenosha, WI
The University of Wisconsin-Parkside Library seeks a dynamic and enthusiastic reference librarian with a strong commitment to service and interest or experience in instruction. This position will provide general reference and instruction, serve as a liaison to designated academic departments for collection development and participate in additional outreach and instruction programs. The position is a permanent, 12-month academic staff appointment with a start date of Sep 2, 2008. The successful candidate will be hired at the rank of Associate Academic Librarian.
The Library has a commitment to facilitating faculty and student research, a strong service orientation, and a well-developed program of library instruction. The Library uses Endeavor’s Voyager automated system, SFX and MetaLib software and invests heavily in electronic reference and full-text sources. The Library has 9.5 professionals, 7 support staff, and approximately 20 student employees. Its collection includes 290,000 titles, 392,000 volumes, and 18,000 AV items.
Qualifications:
Required: Masters degree from an ALA accredited library school; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; web page development skills; ability to work collegially in small groups and team environments; professional commitment to librarianship; and strong interest and/or experience working with a diverse, multicultural population.
Preferred: Experience in providing reference and instruction in an academic library; strong teaching skills; experience in the use of a variety of print and electronic resources; undergraduate degree or coursework in multicultural or ethnic studies.

Qualifications:

Individual must have knowledge of emerging technologies as related to instruction and experience with instructional design theory and technology as well as web technologies, multimedia applications and distributed and/or distance technologies. Proficiency in learning management systems, web authoring or similar tools with the ability to create online educational materials. Must have awareness of usability and accessibility considerations in instructional design and experience in project management, including managing time, establishing priorities, meeting milestones and deliverables.
Education and/or Experience :
A Master’s degree in Instructional Design or related field is required. Two years work experience in areas such as designing instructional materials for online courses, experience with the implementation of educational software, ability to troubleshoot hardware/software problems relating to instructional technologies.

Position responsibilities:

*Providing reference assistance in Steenbock’s subject areas in person and using other appropriate technologies, and contributing to the campus-level collaborative reference programs and activities
*Participating fully in the library’s extensive library instruction and information literacy program and services, which reached over 3300 learners during the 2007-08 academic year
*Serving as library liaison for specific departments in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. In this role the librarian will build strong relationships with the faculty and students in those departments, providing personalized services to support both teaching and research

Degree Requirements:
