The Angie W. Cox Public Library in Pardeeville is looking for a qualified individual to serve as Director beginning in August, 2008. Pardeeville is located in north central Columbia County, 33 miles north of Madison on Highway 22. The library is a member of the South Central Library System and LINK, a shared automation system.

The ideal candidate will enjoy developing new programs and offering new technology for residents of all ages, take pride in the Historic Landmark building which houses the library, and be able to expand the services of the library to meet the needs of the community. The director is responsible for all management tasks related to the operation of the library. The Sparta Free Library is searching for a qualified individual to serve as Director beginning September 2008. Sparta, Wisconsin is the located 20 minutes from La Crosse, 2 hours from Madison, and is the county seat for Monroe County. The city of Sparta has a population of 9,201 and is the headquarters of the Sparta-Elroy Bike Trail. The library is housed in a beautiful Carnegie building with a staff of 8, a collection of approximately 50,000 items and an annual budget of $300,000 plus.

The position includes supervision and management of staff, technology and library building, material selection, finances, and reference services. Candidates should have experience working with municipalities and community leaders, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong computer literacy skills are a must. Position is accountable to the library board.

Candidates must hold or be eligible for Wisconsin Grade 1 certification and have significant public library experience. MLS preferred. The position has a starting salary of $53,000 with excellent benefits.

The Department of Public Instruction, the Division for Libraries, Technology and Community Learning, Reference and Interlibrary Loan Team, is currently seeking a Librarian. This position is located at 2109 South Stoughton Road, Madison

Starting salary will be $17.614 ($36,778 per year). This position is in pay schedule 13, range 01. A six month probationary period is required.

Job Duties

This position provides in-depth reference and research services and/or instruction to staff in public library systems and in all types of libraries throughout the state in response to complex requests for information and materials (which have been unfilled at the local and regional level). This position provides general and specialized reference assistance and/or instruction to state agency libraries and state agency employees, to Wisconsin residents referred by their library or system, and to patrons using the AskAway chat and email virtual reference service, BadgerLink, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) website, the state government portal or contacting the Reference and Loan Library directly. This position supports the public relations and training components of the AskAway virtual reference service and is responsible for recommending materials to be added to the library collection. This position is supervised by the Librarian Supervisor for the Reference and Interlibrary Loan team.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of the reference process including analyzing questions, conducting reference interviews with patrons and other librarians, and asking clarifying questions about deadlines, project scope, and sources appropriate to meeting the patron's needs; general and specialized reference sources in a variety of formats including, but not limited to print and online; strategies, techniques and procedures for conducting research on behalf of patrons and other librarians, using print resources, library-specific online databases (including, but not limited to the types of sources included in BadgerLink) and Internet resources; basic techniques for training patrons how to evaluate reference sources and how to use those sources to conduct research; microcomputers and use of basic computer software (including email and Microsoft Word); collection development and management practices and skill in written and oral communications.

Library Director - 25 hrs. per week/ Brandon Public Library/ Brandon, WI

The Brandon Public Library in Brandon, WI, seeks a dynamic, personable director. The applicant selected will be responsible for all management tasks related to the operation of the library. These duties include, but are not limited to: personnel supervision; facility and automation management; collection development; budgeting and planning; policy implementation; and, library advocacy.

Applicants must be eligible for Grade III library certification in the State of Wisconsin. This certification requires a minimum of 54 semester credits, at least half of which must be in Liberal Arts & Sciences, from an accredited college, university, or technical college. Additionally, applicants must be willing to take additional library courses and continuing education as required to maintain certification. Further, the costs for completing the required coursework are eligible for library system grant aid.

Previous experience in a public library setting and with WALS (Winnefox Automated Library System) is preferred, but not necessary.

Pay range is from $11 to $13.65 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.

Benefits include participation in the state retirement system, some life insurance, five paid holidays, two weeks' vacation after one year of employment, and five hours of sick leave per month (non-cumulative).

Library Education Outreach Specialist/ Milwaukee Public Library/ Milwaukee, WI

Purpose: Under general supervision of the Management Librarian for Youth and Community Outreach Services (YCOS), the Library Education Outreach Specialist assists in the delivery of materials to child care centers and other sites, such as senior housing complexes. The person in this position coordinates requests from the community for library presentations; assists in the development and delivery of early literacy outreach efforts to child care centers and community agencies; and schedules and develops Ready to Read training, manages consultant contracts for the Ready to Read with Books2Go project, and coordinates outreach requests and delivery of materials to child care sites.

Essential Functions:


* Manage the Ready to Read program by overseeing workflow, developing new sites, developing and preparing for workshops, and coordinating use of the program consultants, including recruitment and budget management.
* Maintain memberships in the Books2Go program by recruiting new child care centers and renewing yearly membership.
* Visit child care centers to recruit members and distribute Books2Go cards, backpacks, and library books.
* Work with community partners to develop and expand the Books2Go program.
* Develop and publish seasonal newsletter for Books2Go.
* Maintain database of child care centers, and coordinate mailings to centers.
* Oversee the delivery of program materials to community agencies.
* Assist Management Librarian - YCOS in directing unit work flow.
* Serve as a liaison for community requests for outreach services.
* Provide training to library staff related to literacy and childhood development.
* Work with the Library’s Marketing Department on program promotion and development of promotional materials.
* Assist with grant development, budgets, and new initiatives related to department goals.
* Prepare reports, write articles for publication, and perform other duties as assigned.
* The person in this position must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

* Ability to work effectively with staff, the public, and community groups and leaders.

The Current Salary Range (557) IS: $46,366 to $53,832 annually with excellent benefits. Recruitment is normally at the beginning of the pay range.

The selection process will be job related and will consist of one or more of the following: an evaluation of training, experience and accomplishments, written or oral examinations or other assessment methods. The Department of Employee Relations reserves the right to call only the most qualified candidates to the examination. The oral examination may include written exercises.
